Brazilian Triangles

3-a-side teams are invited to register for the hashfootery team knockout for World Cup 2014. Sixteen slots are available in the four-round knockout draw played over the following stages:

  1. 1st Round of group matches (16)
  2. 2nd Round of group matches (16)
  3. 3rd Round of group matches (16)
  4. Last 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, 3rd-place play off, final (16)

The deadline for registrations is 6pm BST on 12 June 2014. If any of the sixteen team slots remain unfilled at that time, players will be automatically allocated to "quick pick" teams from available hashfooterers ready for the start of the competition at 9pm BST on 12 June 2014.

We currently have no prizes for the winning team, but prize sponsors are most welcome. Contact @hashfootery on twitter if you want to donate prizes.

If you don't have a full team, you can leave a space or spaces open to be filled by other players. Knockout draw will take place at around 8pm on 12 June 2014

Transfer rules

  1. Over the four rounds, all three players should be able to stand by their team. In the event that one or more players can no longer access the internet for a prolonged period, changes to your team line-up are permitted between rounds, according to the following rules
  2. Players can only play for one team, i.e. any player in the Brazilian Triangles is "cup-tied" from playing for any other team in the tournament, even in a later round
  3. Once each round starts, the composition of each team cannot be changed for that round
  4. If a team progresses to the next round, a team member may request (by tweet or DM to @hashfootery) to be replaced by a new recruit (with no previous involvement in the tournament) before the kickoff of the first match in the next round

In the event of a tie...

  1. the team with the greater number of "3 pointers" in the current round is deemed the winner;
  2. if still tied, the team with more points from the previous round is deemed the winner;
  3. if still tied, the team with the greater number of "3 pointers" in the previous round is deemed the winner;
  4. NEW (this is a bit complicated, but bear with me) if still tied, calculate the sum of each player's predicted scores for this round, average this across each team and the team closest to the sum of the actual scores is deemed the winner
  5. if still tied, repeat these same tie-breakers for each round before until a winner can be declared
  6. in the highly unlikely event that a winning team cannot be determined, a decision will be made by @downwithdesign, @kirstieh and @gerrymulvenna
